2 individuals were detained after shots were fired into a building at the Iowa City Market on Monday.
Nobody was hurt by the gunshots fired at the Aaron’s Rental structure, the Iowa City Cops Department said in a press release.
Cops were at first called at roughly 3:58 p.m. regarding possible shots fired. They reacted to the west end of the shopping mall at 1602.5 Sycamore Street. As cops were reacting, additional calls came in about more rounds fired near the crossway of Spruce Street and Highland Avenue.
When police got here, they observed shooting appeared to have struck the building, and they discovered spent shell cases in the car park, according to the release.

, according to reports.Police review of surveillance recordings revealed Schrader going into Aaron’s Rental, walking behind the staff member counter, opening the cash register and beginning to reach into it. A staff member interrupted and the suspect left the structure. Schrader then went into the vehicle that she and Shapcott got here in, according to the police report.
“The accused and the co-defendant then both fired several rounds off from the car, a minimum of two of which entered the structure,” the cops report reads. A staff member stated she experienced one of the suspects firing shots, some in the instructions of the building, which was inhabited by staff members.

Witnesses described a white man and a white female who fired shots from a handgun from inside a silver SUV, according to the report. Officers took the suspects into custody outside of their house as they strolled to their car.
Shapcott and Schrader both confessed to shooting shots in the car park of Aaron’s Rental, while Shapcott stated he might not recall shooting additional rounds near Spruce and Highland. Schrader said they both fired settle near the intersection.
Both are charged with burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony.
They are being held in the Johnson County Constable’s Office prison.
