2021’s (Free) Digital Marketing Tools to Try Today

As 2020 was the year of digital transformation for many, 2021 needs to be the year that you’re more digitally equipped than ever.

I’ve rounded up the best resources you and your team can use today—and all of them have a free model that lets you test how each works.

As I have tested them in these past few weeks, each model has taught me something new.

Some of these have been in market, but were enhanced this year with new features worth exploring.

SparkToro

Co-founded by Casey Henry and Rand Fishkin of Moz, SparkToro’s mission is to “help people do better marketing.” SparkToro helps identify where your audience spends time and what they pay attention to. Simply type in your brand name, product or category—and you’ll find the websites your audiences visit, the podcasts they listen to, and the sources they find influential. (Learn more about SparkToro here.)

If you want to understand the questions users are asking about your product, service or category, type it into AlsoAsked and you’ll get a visual map of questions asked by category.

This is a great resource for planning your FAQs, getting content ideas, and mapping SEO strategies. (Learn more about AlsoAsked here.)

Exploding Topics

Exploding Topics lets you find out the trends in your industry before they take off. You can view topics by category (e.g., beauty, fitness, banking) and use the data to plan content that will be hot and relevant by the time you publish it. (Learn more about Exploding Topics .)

Google Digital Garage

Continuing digital education is crucial for you and your team. Google Digital Garage has a robust variety of learning modules and digital marketing training courses that are highly reviewed and absolutely free. (Learn more about Google Digital Garage here.)

While you may already know about Hotjar—a resource that lets you know where people are hovering, pausing or scrolling on your site—there are new ways of using it, along with new features to explore.

If you’re in content marketing or social media marketing, use Hotjar on your blog. How much of your posts is someone actually reading? Where do they drop off?

And here’s one feature you may not know about: Hotjar measures for “rage clicks”—any spot on your website where people quickly and repeatedly click on the same element out of frustration. (Learn more about Hotjar here.)
