Your hangovers are about to feel lighter—at least, in terms of their environmental impact. Vodka giant Absolut has unveiled a snazzy new bottle design with a little secret: it is made with 60-percent recycled glass.

Glass, as some are aware, has a structure resembling liquids when it is hot, and can be produced by melting natural raw materials and bringing the composition to an ambient temperature. In this case, the frosted blue glass is constructed with 53-percent paper and 43-percent recycled plastic.

Absolut didn’t stop at changing the structural makeup of the bottle. The limited-edition packaging looks strikingly different too, doubling as a meaningful display piece after its contents are gone.

The embossed design of 16 swirls meeting in the middle celebrates various walks of life coming together, an especially inspiring message during a time of physical separation and social divide.

The appearance of upwards spirals also represents positive energy, as well as constant and collective growth.

“The Absolut limited-edition bottle is a collectible item for those loyal to the brand, and we can’t wait to give our consumers the chance to be a part of our sustainability journey,” details Chris Shead, Off-Trade Channel Director for Absolut Vodka parent company Pernod Ricard UK, in a statement obtained by Talking Retail.

The special-edition 700ml bottle is now retailing in the UK for £20 (US$27).

It follows a creative packaging update by Absolut Vodka and Japanese fashion label Sacai that sees the classic bottle getting a second use with a spray nozzle.
