‘Avengers: Endgame’s Original Name And Why They Changed It In The End – Digital Marketing Cardiff to Swansea, Wales | Sales and Marketing Consultants | Business Growth Specialists | Speaker | Sales and Marketing Trainer

Avengers: Endgame has surpassed Titanic as the second highest-grossing film of all time, but it might not have been this acclaimed if it retained its original title.

According to directors Joe and Anthony Russo in an interview with MTV’s podcast Happy Sad Confused, the blockbuster was named Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet for “quite a long time.”

The title was even leaked by Zoe Saldana (who plays ‘Gamora’) when she told BBC News at the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, “I think that the Guardians just shot their part when it comes to Infinity War… And we all have to go back for Gauntlet later this year.”

‘Infinity Gauntlet’ could have been too spoiler-y, since it would have pointed fans at the direction of where the plot was going. As you might have noticed in the year leading up to Endgame’s release, the film’s crew members had been especially secretive about the storyline, going so far as to insert fake footage into its trailer.

Endgame might be a sweet name to round off the Avengers franchise, but it isn’t exactly the perfect title due to how it translates in certain parts of the world.

Anthony Russo hilariously divulged that when the brothers were in South Korea to promote the film, “the representatives from Disney there came up to us and said, ‘Um, there’s something we need to tell you… when ‘Doctor Strange’ says to ‘Tony’ [in Infinity War], ‘We’re in the endgame now,’ the way we translated that here was ‘no hope.’”

Joe Russo chimed in, “So we’re like, ‘Oh, so I guess in Korea, is this movie called Avengers: No Hope?”
