‘Bernie Sanders’ Doll Fetches $40,000 In Fundraising Bid For Charity – Corporate B2B Sales & Digital Marketing Agency in Cardiff covering UK

One perk of memes is that they’re sources of free entertainment. With that being said, one meme has propelled to such popularity that it has raised an estimated US$1.8 million for charity, with US$40,000 being splashed on a doll.

Modeled after the famous image of the Vermont senator seated with mittens during Joe Biden’s inauguration, crochet artist Tobey King’s doll was put up on eBay to gather US$40,000 for Meals on Wheels, the charity supported by Sanders’ campaign when it released its own meme-inspired merchandise.

It took King “about seven hours” to stitch the doll with a crochet needle and some yarn, she told Reuters.

Unsurprisingly, the crocheted doll went viral too, and ended up being purchased for US$20,300. eBay then chipped in to match the sale price of US$40,600.

King, whose husband was dismissed from his job during the pandemic, described that “we’re all struggling in 2020,” so “the best thing [she could do] is just start to try and help others.”
