Digital Marketing: Five Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your Business Digital Marketing: Five Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your Business

These days, digital marketing is the way to go if you’re hoping to establish your brand.

Ask small and big business owners and most of them will probably tell you that it’s just difficult – if not impossible – to catch up with competitors if you aren’t taking full advantage of online marketing tools. Plus, it’s crucial that you implement the right strategies to make the most of your efforts.

If you’re just starting a business and want to conduct a digital marketing campaign the right way, read on and we’ll share several tried and tested hacks you will surely find useful:

1. Set your goal

Are you hoping to reach more of your potential customers? Do you want increased website traffic? Are you introducing a new product? Or all of those, perhaps? Well, knowing exactly what you’re trying to achieve will give you a clearer picture of what steps you need to take, so setting goals is truly important.

Be specific. Add structure to your overall plan by creating short-term goals that move you closer to fulfilling your long-term goals. Doing so will help you determine which steps to take and which tools to use so you can succeed in your internet marketing endeavors.

2. Keep posting good content

Back in 1996, Bill Gates coined the term “Content is king” – and that still rings true to this day.

While visuals are important in promoting a product or service, business owners should “(not) underestimate the power of quality, relevant content in your web advertising scheme,” a Forbes article tells us.

If your website has a blog section, keep it fresh by publishing regularly. This will attract readership and will help you build a reputation as an expert in your industry. Furthermore, this will benefit your search engine optimization because Google recognizes sites with useful content.

Post articles, infographics, videos, and other types of content that will draw your target audience to your site. Make them interesting and informative!

3. Utilize social media

Create social media accounts and pages for your business so you can promote your content. Having multiple channels makes it easier to reach more people. This is basic practice for most businesses nowadays but it’s really surprising how some still fail to take advantage of social networking tools. In fact, customers will likely trust your brand better if they can find you online.

Ideally, you should have a good content calendar so you can plan, organize, and monitor your social media marketing efforts better. Also, keep an eye on your analytics to determine which platforms and posts are generating the most traffic.

4. Spend wisely

Sooner or later, you will have to spend on online advertising to further spread the word about your business. Advertising on social media is a terrific idea. Just try to study which channels can provide the results you want so you can extract the most benefit from your budget.

Do not overspend, especially if you’re not sure if the platform is bringing good results or not.

The same can be said about using different software programs. Use free versions of apps and tools before paying for anything. This will give you the chance to test out the software and see if it will really be a valuable tool for your business.

Reality check: some entrepreneurs make the mistake of subscribing to different software services only to realize later on that they do not actually need them for their marketing efforts.

5. If needed, hire digital marketing consultants

Lastly, here’s a friendly reminder that you actually don’t have to do everything yourself. Even if you’re merely starting out, you can tap digital marketing experts who know exactly how to get the job done right.

If you can’t afford to hire full-time employees yet, you can find thousands of virtual assistants and freelancers online. There are a lot of skilled work-from-home professionals who are ready and willing to help out – for a fraction of the price. For these reasons and more, outsourcing can really benefit your business.

Of course, there are a lot of other reminders such as using only “white hat” marketing strategies, targeting the right keywords, optimizing your website, sending newsletters, and many more.

Digital marketing is truly a fundamental part of succeeding online so do your best to learn it well. Have fun taking your business to the next level!
