Digital Marketing: Your virtual shop window.

As we see many businesses closing their doors and sending staff home to work, the UK and global economy will no doubt be feeling the pinch in these uncertain times. Nevertheless, it’s the true British way to pull up our socks and turn this whole situation around so that we can make the most of what we’ve been dealt with. This is why the team at Social Progress wanted to put together a short blog with some simple ways that digital marketing can keep you, your business and everyone in your network going.

Social Media doesn’t have to cost the earth!

Whilst you will be forced to review overheads, planned expenditure and make considerations for your team, social media in essence can be free. Use this space and this opportunity to optimise your channels, set clear goals for what you can post and when. Review free tools such as Hootsuite and Lastpass to help you stay on top of everything.

Connect with your team.

As you may not be sharing a physical space with your team at the moment, it’s really important to keep them active and engaged in your business and goals. Consider setting up a WhatsApp group so that you can all touch base and talk about what you plan to do today. You can also access online applications such as Zoom or Skype to allow you to hold internal or external meetings virtually. Seeing other people (even if it’s on a screen) can help combat loneliness and keep you thinking about how you can all work together.

Make small, inexpensive changes

If a new website was one of your objectives for 2020, is there anything that you can do to make tweaks with what you have? Maybe you can help to improve it’s performance? You could review your content, tags and meta descriptions for SEO purposes? If you need some bigger changes to the layout or structure of your website, the development cost should be lower than a whole new site. A new blog is also a great way of uploading fresh content and letting people know what’s happening in your business!

If you have some budget, retarget

If your audience is on Facebook, you can create an advert with a modest budget to target visitors which have recently visited you online. This advert will keep your business in mind (and the reason they visited your website) in mind, so that they know where to come to.

Involve your wider network

Along the way in business, you tend to make friends! Whether it’s the office next door, the local sandwich shop or if you’re part of a networking group. Now could be the time to touch base with people that you know and share your experiences. If you can help each other by teaming up on a venture, liking / sharing the occasional post – you’re both extending the potential reach for your business.

In a nutshell – We would like to hope that countries won’t be in lock down forever and self isolation is a necessary but temporary measure. When your customers are ready to take action again, make sure you’re ready. If you would like to join Social Progress’s Digital Hub on Facebook, this group is a great place to stay connected with digital marketing trends but also useful information on what’s happening around us.

Thanks, and stay safe!
