YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University’s Center for Digital Engagement will host a centered around the age of artificial intelligence (AI). The event will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2023. There will be speakers such as , “” on social media platforms, , vice president of marketing and brand strategy for the Detroit Pistons, , account strategist for Google, and more. Keynoting the event is EMU alum , founder of and co-founder of .
The theme of Prucha’s presentation is “Building a $100 Million Brand.” He graduated from Eastern with a bachelor’s in business administration and started his career as an Apple engineer. He eventually moved to create his own companies. Notion is a note-taking and planning platform company offering premium organization tools that are now valued at $10 billion and are used worldwide. Origin is the 3D printing company he founded and sold for $100 million.
“Our keynote will chronicle how Chris built his latest startup into a company that he sold for $100 Million,” said Bud Gibson, professor of integrated marketing communications. “Chris is currently an AI investor, and he will give us an overview of where he thinks AI is headed.”
Gibson is the faculty host of the event. He states that generative AI can take visual and free-form verbal input and produce sophisticated responses in the form of written documents, images, and even videos that, on the surface, seem to rival what a human can produce. Although this technology is not ready to produce independently, it allows professionals to be three to 10 times more productive across domains like coding, marketing, and language translation.
“Our conference will provide real-world examples of the types of things that are and are not possible with the current state of AI,” said Gibson. “The bottom line is that you can’t just let AI lose on content creation and expect good results, but with practice, AI can dramatically speed up your workflows.”
The workshop will start in the Student Center ballroom with the breakfast keynote from Prucha. Afterward, the first panel will be held in room 310 to discuss how AI can help grow projects and make work efforts more efficient. Kim Barker, professor of management, will hold a networking break in room 300. Panel two will also be held in room 310 to provoke conversations on how incorporating AI into workspaces could benefit and also put risks on creators. Lunch and discussions on what attendees can take away from the workshop will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the ballroom.
Tickets for this event will cost $30 for the general public. EMU faculty and staff tickets will cost $15, and student tickets cost $5. The deadline to register for this event is Oct. 31, 2023. To register, click .
