Genese, the cloud solution providing company, has got the authorization from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) to make payments for various platforms like Facebook, Google, Microsoft and more. With the first-ever authorization, this could be NRB’s initiation to formalize such payments for digital marketing.
Unauthorized payments
Earlier Startups, businesses and Social media marketers were using international cards & PayPal of friends, relatives abroad for their digital services requirement. As such payments could not be done in local currency from Nepal in a convenient manner, people had no options but to follow the unofficial channels.
With such payment in foreign currencies, millions of dollars were hoarded from Nepal through unofficial routes. Such transactions also prevented the central bank for any benefits like TDS. The unauthorized transactions not only mean the loss of revenues to the country but also the lack of any scrutiny required by the authorities.
NRB action
Considering the harm to the country, NRB curbed all sorts of unauthorized payments to those platforms like Facebook, Linkedin, Google from Feb 2020. That sparked immediate interruption of what those small businesses or startups had been doing for their businesses.
They also warned to take action if people or companies are found to make or receive payments from social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter through the unofficial channels.
As NRB published the circular without any preparations and opening formal channels, local businesses and digital marketers came down on the decision. They were found worried about losing their business and the uncertainty of when the official channels be available.
The first authorized Digital marketing company!
Genese has become the first authorized digital marketing company to get compliance from NRB and Inland Revenue Department.
Now that the official channel is here, it is a great relief to all those who are worried for the barrier to pay for the digital services. You can just contact Genese Solution to start promoting your business in all those platforms by paying in local currency with the VAT bill. Some people/small businesses would like to limit their activity to Facebook boost, Insta boost, the Twitter boost to sell their products, services.
Sharing the great news over Facebook live, Anjani Phuyal, the Global CTO of Genese expressed that, they had continuously lobbied to NRB, Department of IT, MoCIT. Which finally convinced them to award the permission for the payments to international platforms.
He also highlighted the importance of such a key decision to encourage such platforms like Facebook, Google to open offices here in Nepal. As they will get the details of the payments done from Nepal instead of abroad, they will start to recognize Nepal with the revenue potential here. If such multinationals come to Nepal, it will open up multifold benefits to the country, creating business and employment opportunities.
Not forgetting, Genese soft solution has been providing cloud service solutions using AWS, Google, Microsoft to Nepali firms for some years. With this latest addition, they seemed to go big with the easy payments for those digital service solutions. It would be great if they integrate any local payment providers like eSewa, Khalti & more to pay remotely. Mr. Phuyal also went further to express (over Facebook live) for the potential to bring other solutions like Paypal to Nepal in the future.
We suppose more of such companies will get approval in the coming days. So, the local businesses and Digital marketing companies will now get their job done from official channels, while equally benefitting the country.
