Google Play Store Subtly Tweaks Logo To Be A Tad More Symmetrical – Corporate B2B Sales & Digital Marketing Agency in Cardiff covering UK

While Instagram has brightened up its icon, the Google Play Store has muted its own. If you haven’t noticed anything new with the latter, worry not, as the changes are barely as hi-vis as those for the photo-sharing social network.

In fact, the refreshed Play Store logo hasn’t fully unrolled into its ecosystem yet. It was only brought to Android users’ attention after spotted the facelift within GPay and Google Pay, and nowhere else—so who knows when the tech giant actually brought it into being?

Even if you did use GPay or Google Pay recently, you’d probably have missed the new look too. The icon appears when you make a Play Store transaction—but in low-res and in a small size.

A side-by-side comparison shared by makes the adjustments a little more apparent:

The Play Store logo’s nearly-neon hues have been visibly toned down to appear closer to the ones seen in the Gmail and Google Drive symbols (not to mention, the Google logomark).

The colors are also more evenly distributed between each other, with the now-darker blue receiving a smaller slice of the pie.

Less obvious, perhaps, is how the edges of the triangle have become more rounded, falling in line with Google’s fairly new ‘Material You’ design language.

Notably, 9to5Google reported soon after that the Google Play Store has just debuted a Material You UI makeover for Android tablets and Chromebooks. Similarly, its search bar here is now pill-shaped, instead of a rectangular box.

As the new Play Store logo hasn’t been introduced in all of Google’s relevant services yet, it’s still a little too early to know if this will be the official design moving forward. It’s not like the changes are grand enough for anyone to care, anyway.
