Graphic and Web Design is the foundation of the multimedia industry which is at the forefront of today’s Technological Industry. Companies see the importance of marketing and branding; be it in printable or digital form. Social Media has become many companies main form of advertising and promotion which requires design elements and animated interaction to attract potential markets and retain the interest of existing clients. Motion Graphics and Virtual Reality features are today’s fundamental digital effects that can transform a company’s branding successfully. This course will enable students to gain the knowledge, experience and design skills required to work in the Digital Design Industry. Successful students will be awarded a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Multimedia Production. All students complete a two week work experience placement as part of their studies on this course.

Course Duration

This is a one year full time course running from September until May.

Fees:

Once you have applied online you will be called for an interview within a few weeks. QQI examination fees cost €50, although Medical Card holders are exempt from paying this fee on production of a valid medical card. Books and essential class materials may also be required. A €200 Government levy will apply on acceptance of a place on PLC course, but medical card holders and those in receipt of a maintenance grant will be exempt. A €100 Student Services fee and €50 art supplies also applies.

Detailed Course Outline:

Multimedia Authoring:

This module is designed to equip students with the specialist skills to design, develop, review, evaluate and distribute industry-standard multimedia content, websites in particular. This module is particularly suited to those who have an interest in computer graphics and web-based multimedia.

Multimedia Project Development:

This module is designed to equip students with the specialist skills to design, develop, review, evaluate and distribute industry-standard multimedia content, websites in particular. This module is particularly suited to those who have an interest in computer graphics and web-based multimedia.

Design Skills:

This module aims to equip students with the tools necessary to understand and appreciate design principles and the concept of design as a problem solving activity.

Digital Marketing:

This module aims to lead the student to an understanding of the historical, current and evolving role of digital marketing. It also supports students in identifying, implementing and evaluating examples of digital marketing strategies.

Digital Photography:

This module enables students to acquire fundamental skills of digital photographic production. It also helps them develop an understanding of the inter-relationship between theory and practice of photography.

Graphic Design Skills:

This module helps the student to explore their critical awareness and evaluation skills, explore the design process and apply their knowledge practically through the undertaking of various project work.

Image Processing:

This module facilitates students to develop an awareness of digital image processing from planning and design to the production and evaluation of images produced.

Web Design:

This module is designed to enable the student to acquire the skills necessary to design, develop and maintain an interactive website from the ground up. They will also learn the principles of professional web design incorporating the history of the World Wide Web and the Internet.

Work Experience:

Complete a 2 week hands on placement in an area of your choosing related to Graphic & Web Design with Digital Marketing.

Communications:

Develop skills needed in the workplace including IT skills, team working skills as well as research and writing skills.
