Sir David Attenborough has traversed just about all corners of the planet, including the realms of augmented reality. The beloved naturalist has taken to London’s Piccadilly Circus, in hologram form, to spread the word about the importance of biodiversity and keeping plants alive.
“We must now work with plants, make the world a little greener, a little wilder. If we do this our future will be healthier, safer, and, in my experience, happier,” a 3D Attenborough urges from the iconic billboard.

The figure then fades away to welcome a 3D viewing of foliage that grows as the animation progresses. The illusion appears to hang outside the screen, reaching outwards to remind onlookers about plants being the seed of all life.

The activation, planned by BBC Studios alongside the property’s owner Landsec and operator Ocean Outdoor, promotes the new The Green Planet AR Experience, an immersive digital installation portraying natural scenes of rainforests, oceans, and deserts.
Practicing what it preaches, the campaign includes a green takeover of the site’s Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, affectionately known as the Fountain of Eros, filling the space with flowers and greenery.
