How Long Should A TikTok Be? Digital Marketing News 27th October 2023

Did you know that there are still people on Instagram who only look at the Feed? I feel that the feed has long been ignored for updates by Instagram. But maybe not anymore

As announced by Adam Mosseri on his Instagram broadcast channel, Instagram is working on polls for the comments of feed posts. You’ll be able to add them both to the feed and Reels.

It’s great for users as they can engage in a meaningful way with the accounts they follow without having to leave a comment.

Just when you were finally getting to grips with the new Google Analytics 4 it goes and change something.

In Fairness Google is constantly updating Analytics with new features, but this one is a biggie. It’s a whole new Admin dashboard.

Up until last week, there’d be two long columns to navigate all of your settings, now they’re laid out in a more user-friendly interface. I think it’s an improvement but it’s going to take some time to get used to.

WhatsApp Account Switching

WhatsApp is an amazing tool for customer communication. But if you want to keep work and business separate you have to manage it via two different phone numbers… which mostly means two different devices.

I know from experience this doesn’t work, your second phone gets forgotten.

A new feature from WhatsApp solves that problem. As announced by Zuck himself, you will now be able to switch between WhatsApp accounts on one device.

New Affiliate tagging on YouTube

In the run-up to the holiday season, we see social networks pull out all the stops on video shopping.

YouTube is kicking things off this year with new affiliate features that will make it easier to tag products. The new product tagging will show product links on screen as they appear in videos.

YouTube claims that in tests this has resulted in product tags being clicked twice as frequently. That means more money for affiliates and more sales for businesses.

Musk threatens Europe Withdrawal

Is deliberately cutting access to your product to a large number of your customers a good tactic?

It’s one Elon Musk is considering, and also something Meta has threatened in the past. The reason? EU legislation, and in this case the EU Digital Services Act. This has forced social networks to clamp down on harmful content, limiting personalised advertising options and more.

I can understand his frustration but is getting NO revenue from Europe better than getting some? It will be interesting to see if he acts on this threat.

How long should your content be? The answer is different depending on where you consume it.

Last week on my favourite film podcast Kermode and May’s Take, there was a discussion about Killers of The Flower Moon. A film being shown in cinemas with a running time of approximately 3.5 hours. That’s a long time to sit in the cinema. Perhaps it’s going to be easier to consume on Apple TV, (who funded the project). On streaming services we consume differently, we’re used to hitting the pause button or binging content.

So when I heard TikTok was experimenting with 15-minute uploads I started wondering if this could work? Are people slowly getting used to longer videos on TikTok? And what does the mean for the future of short-form video?

All we can do is experiment to see if people do hang around and watch these longer uploads.

Did you ever get an unexpected voice or video call from Facebook Messenger? What did you do? Look at it in horror? Yeah me too…

And while I’m at it. When did you last get a real message on Twitter, not spam, not someone begging you to repost something? Yeah, I can’t remember either.

So wouldn’t it be great if spammers could start a voice call with you on Twitter/X? NO Musk NO.
