Hello there, everyone. Now, hold on – I know what you’re thinking. ‘Not another Brexit article!’ you’re thinking. ‘I’m sick of it!’ you’re thinking. And I get it, I really do!
Over the past 3 years, it has seemed like you can’t open a news site without Brexit this and Brexit that, can’t sit in a restaurant without overhearing someone on the phone talking about Brexit… not even your Facebook feed is safe from the Brexit chatter!
But I bet one good reason you’re tired of hearing, seeing, and reading about Brexit is that the vast majority of the talk is NEGATIVE.
Well, I’m here to break that cycle for you today.
I’m going to explain to you why you SHOULDN’T be worried about Brexit.
So, grab a cuppa, sit back, and you can relax.
As ever, the media look for negative stories and play on people’s fear, and as a result many business owners up and down the country are – sensibly – considering their futures, the future of their business, and the future of their profits. There is an underlying question – what if there is a recession following Brexit?
It is true that a recession or economic downturn after January 31st (or whatever the final leaving date is) IS a possibility, but here’s where I’m about to change the rhetoric for you…
Are you ready?
You’re going to be fine.
In times of possible recession, most businesses panic – and that’s the WRONG MOVE.
Businesses, especially small businesses, start to imagine their downfall… and in their rush to fight back, they start making hasty decisions… and those decisions are usually what cause that exact downfall.
They decide they’re going to have to tighten their budget, so they let people go… the very people who they’ve always relied on to get important tasks done every single day. They pull back on their marketing in order to decrease outgoings… and then their visibility shrinks, and interest dies down. They start acting afraid, and they put the fear into their teams, which doesn’t motivate, it de-motivates. Workplace morale plummets, and the entire business starts to feel doomed.
And that’s a slippery slope that you don’t want to go near.
Eventually, customers get wind of this self-doubt and they start to wonder, ‘well, if they’re so worried about their future, should I even stick with them?’
Don’t let anyone feel that way about your business!
This is the time when you need to boost positivity across the board! People who feel like they’re failing start acting like they’re failing… and their actions lead to failing!
This is the time to stand taller and shine brighter!
In fact, this is a crucial time for you; why?
Because most business owners won’t take my advice and they’ll do all those wrong moves we just talked about… and that’s how you can overshadow your competition.
This is when you can stand out.
While everyone else is running scared, you’re calm and collected. You’re making careful, calculated decisions and you’re carrying on.
This is the time to invest in attracting new customers. This is the time to let your existing customers know that you’re NOT worried about the future, and you’re still there for them, with products and services worth sticking around for.
Our job, as business owners, is to make sure that our marketing efforts reflect our ambition. Any customer that comes to your business needs to know that you are forward-thinking and that you can provide the service they’re looking for. Your competitors are too busy laying people off and moving to cheaper premises to focus on effective marketing strategies and channels, and in those rare moments that they DO remember marketing and make a tiny bit of effort, that effort won’t be anywhere near effective.
Marketing is often the first thing to suffer during a downturn even though it’s so cost-effective. A lot of business owners don’t realise how little they’re actually saving when they decide to drop marketing. When you invest in a digital marketing strategy, you have so many options: Pay-Per-Click, targeted ads, email shots, YouTube videos, Instagram stories… the list is endless. You can pick what you’d like to use. And you definitely don’t have to do everything at once.
No matter what market conditions you find yourself up against, you can prosper as long as you don’t panic!
Don’t react – act.
If you’d like to know more specifics, you can . In this guide, we explain how you can use digital marketing in a cost-effective way to expand your company, whether you’re in a thriving market or a market that everyone is scared to move in.
