20 Jul Is it time to redesign? Deciding whether it is time to re-design your brand image can be a challenging decision to make. Maintaining an up-to-date and relevant visual brand without destroying your years of brand awareness is the key to a successful redesign. If you’ve had negative feedback on your logo or website lately, it could be that technology and design trends have just surpassed your original design that could have been really “in” at some point. So, is it time for you to redesign? Here are some questions to ask yourself… Is your logo hard to read, or take more than a first glance to understand? Does your logo or website contain heavy gradients, strokes, or dark drop shadows? What your logo not designed in vector format? Is your logo using clip art of any kind? (I really hope not) Are you using a photo as your logo? Does you logo have multiple colors and font types? Does your website look good on a phone? Does your website and logo have different color schemes? Does your website use photos as all buttons and styling? If you answered yes to any of these questions, most likely you’re in need of an update. The update could be that you just need a new logo, or maybe just a new website design, but most likely your entire identity system should be redesigned. If your brand is really strong, maybe it just needs a makeover. This can be a great way to accomplish a redesign but still make your image easily recognizable. Two great examples of this are the recent Google and MasterCard redesign. Google simply changed its typeface styling, from a serif font to a san serif style, while maintaining its familiar colors and use of white space on the Google landing page. MasterCard, went for a simpler more modern look by taking the type out of the two circles and placing it below the icons with a cleaner and friendlier typeface (all lowercase letters). Mastercard also maintained the overlapping circles and colors to keep the consistency of the logo. Making simple tweaks like this can make a huge impact on your audience perception and give your visual brand the professional look it deserves. Although the process of redesigning can take time and a lot of work on the designers end, it will be worth it in the end!
