LEGO has unveiled its brand-new ‘Everyone Is Awesome’ set, created to celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.
The vibrant set features 11 monochromatic mini figures, each with its own distinct color.
According to The Guardian, the colors used were taken from the original rainbow flag, as well as the trans pride flag – made up of light blue, white, and pink. LEGO has also added black and brown into its rainbow, acknowledging the people of color within the LGBTQ+ community.
Most of the mini figures don’t have a specific gender assigned to them either, allowing them to “express individuality, while remaining ambiguous.”
The only exception is the purple minifigure spotting a beehive hairstyle, which “is a clear nod to all the fabulous drag queens out there,” said designer Matthew Ashton, who is also the Vice-President of Design at LEGO.
Ashton had originally created the set as a personal project, but upon hearing favorable feedback from other members of the LGBTQ+ community at LEGO, he realized it was something that could be shared with the rest of the community and its allies.
“We share love for creativity and self-expression through LEGO bricks and this set is a way to show my gratitude for all the love and inspiration that is constantly shared,” said Ashton.
The ‘Everyone Is Awesome’ set will be available to purchase online from June 1, and will retail at US$34.99.
