Microsoft Teams, which is often used in workplaces, is now available for free for personal use.
Aside from making Teams available to everyone, Microsoft has also added a slew of new personal features to make communicating with your loved ones a breeze.
One of its newest features for personal use is ‘Together Mode’, which allows you to turn a regular video call into a shared virtual environment – so you’ll feel like you’re gathered with family in the same space. The tech firm also posits that ‘Together Mode’ reduces video call fatigue, as “your brain doesn’t have to work as hard when compared to a standard video call.” Choose from a range of virtual environments such as a lounge, coffee shop, or even a summer resort to immerse yourself in the company of family and forget you’re stuck at home.
There are also live emoji and GIF reactions that you can use while speaking, for even more fun conversations.
In this era, finalizing plans with friends can be a chore. It’s not easy to coordinate across everyone’s calendars, especially when lockdown restrictions are different everywhere.
With Teams, users will now be able to sync everyone’s schedule from its chats. Plus, even if a friend isn’t on Teams, they can still reply to group chats via text messages.
In a group chat, you’ll be able to create shared to-do lists and assign tasks to others, so everyone knows what they’re up to, and when it’s due.
Be it reminding your spouse to grab a loaf of bread or making sure your friends are ready for the weekly Friday video call, everything can be checked-off on the app.
If you’re in a particularly indecisive group, Teams also has a poll option to help you vote on decisions. Based on the results, anyone in the group can start a group event or assign tasks to others. Easy.
For those already using a Teams account at work, just click on your profile to add a personal account. For new users, download the iOS, Android, or desktop app to access the new features.
