With networking moving more online than ever before, LinkedIn is an effective social media platform for providing and finding professional support. On June 30, 2020, LinkedIn Official Blog announced new features to make it easier to give and get help.
Wherever you’re at in your career or business, the new LinkedIn features have something for everyone. Let’s take a closer look!
Finding New Opportunities
If you’re searching for a new opportunity, LinkedIn allows you to privately signal recruiters that you’re open to work. You can specify the types of jobs you’re interested in and indicate your preferences so you can show up in more recruiter search results.

Open-To Work Feature
LinkedIn’s new Open-To Work Feature lets other members know that you’re open to work, making yourself more discoverable by hiring managers. An option is to have an #OpenToWork photo frame that is added to your profile picture.
The optional photo frame allows anyone who sees your profile in a search or when you comment on a post that you’re open to new opportunities, helping you to make a new connection.
How to turn this feature on:
- Go to your profile and under your picture click: “Show recruiters you’re open to work”
- Fill in your job preferences (e.g. job title, location, job type)
- Click the “Choose who sees you’re open” to only show recruiters or add a badge to your profile photo so all LinkedIn members can see
When you’re done, you can also use the #opentowork hashtag when publishing a post to reach more LinkedIn members to help you find your next role.
Giving Support
Professional support can be many different things like providing an introduction, reviewing a resume, practicing interview skills, giving general advice, and more. Not only does giving help benefit others, but it can also elevate your personal brand and establish you as an industry leader.
Offer Help Feature
One of the features that LinkedIn is testing to help members offer professional support is the new prompts when starting a post. The Offer Help feature lets others know specifically what you’re willing to help.
How to offer help in a LinkedIn post:
- Start a new post and click the “Offer Help” option
- Select all the ways you’d wish to help others.
- Decide who you’d like to be able to see it, preferably “Anyone” to maximize reach
- Hit “Post” and review any messages or comments to set up a conversation
In addition to these support features, LinkedIn has also released new reactions so members can show support for articles, posts, news, or views.
Digital Marketing Support
LinkedIn offers a variety of benefits for job seekers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders which is why the new features were designed to give value to everyone. When professionals support each other, great things happen.
That’s why Sales & Marketing Technologies offers digital marketing support like SEO, PPC, content, web design, development, and more to help businesses grow and thrive in today’s competitive marketplace.
