Something a little different for this post, in so much as it’s not business related, it’s a delve into my photographic archive that I’ve been searching through recently.
I’ve been toying with the idea of doing photographic archive posts for some time and this is the first. To break up the business posts and offer readers something different and the opportunity to look at, what I believe to be, an interesting delve into my photographic archive and the stories behind the images.
I’ve been taking pictures for many years and amassed hundreds of thousands of them. From the first picture I took, with a disposable camera that I got for Christmas in 1972, yes, I still have the picture somewhere, right through to the present day.
Whether personal or business photography, for most of my life I’ve had a camera of some sort in my hand. There again, when I look back there are also times that I’ve not had a camera when I now wished I had.
Things are different now, with the advent of digital and mobile technology, smartphones have allowed us to capture images whenever and wherever we want and take as many as we want. Always endeavouring to capture that perfect shot.
One of the things I’ve noticed about having so many images, some stored in boxes and many more on hard drives, is that you tend to store or file them, and then that’s it. You never really spend much time looking at them, unless you’re looking for something specific.
This is the reason why I’ve started looking through my photographic archive, to see what I can find that piques my interest and inspires me to write about it. This is how I came to find these of Dubai Creek from the water, taken on a trip to see friends in 2015.
Over the years I am lucky to have seen a lot of Dubai, much of it from the water. I’ve made several trips there over the years and was very fortunate that not only did my friend have transport to show us the sites of Dubai from the ground, but he also had a boat, which he regularly took us out on.
One such trip was a morning ride up Dubai Creek, which is a great way to see the city from a different perspective. These images are ten of many taken that morning, on a Samsung Galaxy S5, and ones that I feel capture the feel of the creek.
When people think of Dubai, they often think of the glamour and glitz of Downtown Dubai, with the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and Dubai Aquarium, to name just a few of its amazing attractions, it’s easy to see why.
The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, and the Dubai Mall is the largest shopping mall in the world, both impressive feats of engineering and architecture. In addition, Downtown Dubai is home to a variety of other attractions, including the Dubai Fountain, the Souk Al Bahar, and the Emirates Towers.
Dubai is a vibrant and exciting place to visit, and it is no wonder that it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
However, Dubai is also a city with a rich history and culture. And one of the best ways to experience that is on a boat ride up Dubai Creek. The creek is a natural inlet that divides Dubai Old City into two parts: Deira and Bur Dubai.
It has been a major trading route for centuries because of its strategic location on the Persian Gulf, at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, making it a natural hub for trade.
As you make your way up the creek, you’ll see traditional dhows (wooden boats) bobbing in the water, which also reflects the city’s modern skyscrapers. You’ll get a glimpse of the city’s diverse population, as people from all over the world go about their daily lives, crisscrossing the creek in water taxis and ferries.
A boat ride up Dubai Creek is a great way to start your day in Dubai. It’s a chance to see the city from a different perspective and to experience its rich history and culture.
If you travel for business or pleasure and you’re considering visiting Dubai, I would highly recommend a morning boat ride up Dubai Creek, it’s a wonderful experience, one I’ve been lucky enough to have.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this delve into my photographic archive and I look forward to bringing you more.
