Former US president Donald Trump’s social media network, TRUTH Social, has open to the first 500 beta testers, who have started using an early version of the platform.
The site, which was unveiled following Trump’s ban from Facebook and Twitter, has been touted as “an open, free, and honest global conversation against political ideology.”
With its launch date at the end of March looming closer, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the platform’s parent company, has promised to deliver an “engaging and censorship-free experience.”
Reuters reported that sources, such as Liz Willis from the Right Side Broadcasting Network, received an email earlier this week, which read: “T Media Tech LLC has invited you to test Truth Social.”
Willis downloaded the app through beta testing site TestFlight, which other developers use to pre-launch iOS apps. Other beta testers have started using the test version of the social platform.
Wayne Dupree, host of a conservative podcast, commented on the trial, saying: “I can see my participation in TRUTH Social outgrowing Twitter because it seems I am not suppressed like I have been on Twitter, since 2016.”
According to CNET, Trump himself already has a verified account on the site, as do other conservative media figures. On Wednesday, the former president’s account was said to have amassed 317 followers.
TRUTH Social functions similarly to Twitter, by allowing users to post or share “truths.” At the moment, there is no edit button and advertisements have yet to reach the network.
A screenshot seen by Reuters indicated that “a new direct messaging experience will be available soon,” though it remains unclear what that will exactly entail.
Will TRUTH Social soon rival the likes of Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram? Or will it go to the way of Trump’s short-lived blog?
