Vogue Italia magazine left its April 2020 cover entirely blank for the first time ever in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
Emanuele Farneti, the publication’s editor-in-chief, stated that white was chosen to represent respect, rebirth and “the sum of all colors.”
It also signifies the white uniforms worn by medical workers battling COVID-19 on the front lines. “It’s a time and space for thinking. And for staying silent too,” Farneti wrote on Instagram.
Farneti revealed that the magazine had other plans for the April cover, but decided to wash it completely in white to acknowledge the loss of lives, infected individuals and the doctors and nurses risking their lives during the pandemic.
The inside of the magazine features contributions from famous fashion personalities including Steven Klein, Joe McKenna, Bella, and Gigi Hadid, Collier Schorr, Petra Collins, Willy Vanderperre, and Lindsey Wixson, who have shared raw photos of themselves at home in a bid to express solidarity during this uncertain period.
The issue is now available at newsstands and free to download digitally via the official Vogue Italia website.
