2019 is rapidly coming to a close and the beginning of a new
year doesn’t just mean a fresh start for you, but a fresh start for your
business as well.
In the digital world, a year means 365 days of innovation.
As we enter a new decade, we will see constantly changing digital marketing
trends, algorithms, and social networking sites. As marketers, we need to stay
up to date to keep our clients up to date. Here are some of the trends we expect
to see in 2020:
Voice Search – approximately ¼ of all Americans have a smart speaker in their home. Products like Amazon Echo and Google Home have completely changed the way people perform searches. In addition, 31% of smartphone users use voice activated search at least once a week. Digital marketers can no longer afford to ignore this growing trend. It is estimated that by 2020 50% of all searches will be done by voice. Optimizing keywords for voice search is crucial in staying ahead of this growing trend.
Augmented Reality- AR is already being used by companies to engage their consumers. LensCrafters lets customers “try on” glasses online to find the right frame for their face, IKEA lets you see what a certain piece of furniture would look like in your room, and Sherwin-Williams allows customers to visualize what different paint colors would look like on their wall.
Interactive Content- This year expect to see content marketing shift its attention towards what the customer wants. Posting interactive content like 360-degree videos, quizzes, and polls are great to share with your audience. These types of content are original, sharable, increase brand awareness and give visitors a reason to stay on your page.
Smart Bidding in Google Ads- With the recent updates to Google Ads, users have the ability to choose conversion actions at the campaign level, the ability to optimize your bids across several campaigns with a set of desired conversion actions, and the ability to set bids to automatically change when a sale starts or stops.
Chatbots- Chatbots are certainly not a new invention
but this type of artificial intelligence will continue to improve customer
service for businesses. Chatbots provide the best experience for customers by
delivering a more personal experience and resolving an issue or answering a
question within seconds, and businesses love that it saves them time and money.
Chatbots will only continue to get smarter and find ways to better serve their
customers.
Video- Video content has taken off over the last few years and is one of the most effective ways to engage your audience. Video content is extremely versatile and the format and length is different for each channel so you have more opportunities to appeal to a wider audience. Live video and 360 videos are also fairly new ways to promote content that are worth giving a try if you haven’t already.
Position Zero in SERP- The “zero” position is the featured text that appears before the search results. This position typically provides the answer to what is being searched and provides a link to the full webpage for further information. This has now become the coveted spot that all marketers want.
Page Speed- Page speed has always been an important part of any webpage, but as technology continues to advance it cuts down the time consumers are willing to wait for the page to load. Research shows that 25% of users will abandon a page if it does not load in 4 seconds.
It may seem hard to keep up with the everchanging marketing
world, but those that evolve will reap the rewards. In a world that has become
primarily digital, staying on top of trends is key in reaching your target
audience.
