Digital Marketing Trends for 2021

The past year has had a massive effecton the how, why and when people interact with businesses online. Noone could have predicted the changes which took place and how they would shape the digital marketing landscape.

Now, we are moving into a new year and a new decade. With all the lessons we have learnt this year, just what trends are we expecting to see in

Let’s take a look at the digital marketing trends we are expecting to play a major role in the new year.

Local Listings

Everyone is familiar with Google Local listings. They are an invaluable resource for local businesses, allowing customers to quickly and easily view basic information.

While these have been around for a while, they are set to take off in 2021 as people look to support their local businesses more and start to get back out onto the highstreet.

It is highly important, therefore, to ensure your Local listing is kept up to date and is properly verified. While it may go against the grain to limit yourself to a precise location, the power of the Google listing means that your opening times, location and customer rating are directly in front of potential customers, pointing them directly to you.

Shoppable Posts

Shoppable posts aren’t brand new, in fact they are already fairly established by both Instagram and You Tube. However, if the last year taught us anything, it is that the fewer hurdles in the way of a purchase, the better.

These posts make it possible for people to click and purchase directly through a post, allowing them to shop without having to leave the app they are on.

People have been shown an easier and quicker way of shopping online and this desire is guaranteed to be carried into 2021.

Anything that makes it easier for a customer to make a purchase is something to keep on top of.

Voice Search

Voice search is not currently a part of the Google algorithm. However, the increase in voice searches being carried out using devices such as Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri are already having an effect on the content people are seeing.

The use of voice assistants is on the rise and, often a voice search will yield a much different result to that of traditional text.

It is important, therefore, to consider this when looking at your website’s SEO. Voice search content needs to be much more conversational and direct, so it would be a good idea to do some research on how to optimise for this.

User Experience

Yes, sounds simple, but actually the way your users experience your website is going to be extremely important in 2021.

Google has started factoring UX signals’ into its rankings, via Core Web Vitals – an extension for measuring user experience factors

Metrics, such as interactivity, load time and content stability, are now taken into consideration and will have an impact on how your SEO performs in 2021.

There will also be a number of smaller trends seeing a rise in 2021, such as an increased move to Social Media for customer engagement, the growth of short form video ads (such as Tik Tok and Instagram Reels)and a move toward customised ads for targeted audiences.
