Gatorade is hoping to strengthen its position in the sports performance field with the ‘Gx Sweat Patch’, its first-ever wearable device.

As its name suggests, the patch tracks sweat to assess the wearer’s performance and hydration levels. Athletes are to stick it on their left inner forearm before working out, and when they’ve completed their routine, they can scan the patch via Gatorade’s Gx app to obtain their unique sweat profile.

Your sweat profile takes into account your perspiration levels, loss of sodium in the forearm, body weight, and intensity or type of workout.

Since it soaks up perspiration, the patch is a single-use piece. The strip should fill up with some color from a non-toxic dye as it absorbs perspiration to indicate your sweat level.

Upon revealing your sweat data, the app will also offer hydration solutions to boost your athletic performance and prevent dehydration or cramping.

The patches will retail for US$24.99 online and at Dick’s Sporting Goods locations starting Monday.
