Hong Kong Alumni Masterclass: Digital Marketing Trends

Hong Kong Alumni Masterclass: Digital Marketing Trends

We have not been able to meet with our Hong Kong alumni in person for nearly three years due to the impact of Covid-19, but we were recently provided with an excellent opportunity to engage with one of our most vibrant alumni communities.

Navigating the Digital Horizon was the key topic as Peter Andrews, Strategic Partnership Director and Senior Lecturer in Digital & Social Media Marketing delivered a Digital Trends Masterclass in Hong Kong to alumni.

The session explored some of the key digital marketing trends, highlighting some of the biggest disruptive influences and unpacking how companies can stay ahead of the competition.

Some of the key topics of discussion on the evening were:

The Role of AI and Automation in Marketing:

The use of AI in content creation, automating tasks and dealing with big data. The opportunities to use data for greater insights and targeting are incredible. The dangerous aspects of AI was also a hot topic.

The Metaverse Stutters:

Last year’s big ticket in digital marketing is looking very different in 2023. Peter delved into this emerging space, discussing the opportunities and challenges it presents.

SuperApps: The Future of Convenience:

Peter has been talking about SuperApps for over a decade and they are already big news in most of Asia. With Elon’s plans for the ‘app formally known as Twitter’, Peter unpacked the opportunities.

Peering into Dark Social Media:

It is surprising how little is discussed about the most powerful area of social sharing. Peter shed light on how private sharing outside traditional social networks holds immense potential for marketers to tap into authentic conversations.

Peter and colleagues Dr Wen-Ling Lui and Dr Hadiza Sa’id were in Hong Kong to celebrate graduation with Hong Kong University Space and took the opportunity to meet with alumni at the Masterclass. Alumni were also able to take advantage of the networking opportunities over refreshments.

Peter said “The pace of change in digital marketing can seem overwhelming, so, it is crucial to understand which of the latest trends are important and how to apply them to gain a competitive advantage. We have been delivering MBA programmes in Hong since 1991 and our relationship with HKUSpace has now seen over 3000 student graduate from Hull University, so it was good to support our alumni in person again.”

We are hoping to deliver future Masterclasses and opportunities for alumni to get together over the coming year in Hong Kong, so please do look out for further information.
