WICHITA, KAN – J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc. has made a $30,000 gift to WSU Tech to support the college’s Digital Marketing program, which began in the Fall 2019 semester. Funds will be used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment to enhance applied learning experiences for students studying digital marketing. The program, led by Director Brianna Anderson, combines traditional marketing skills with the specialized technical skills required to develop first-class digital marketing content.

Peggy Ward, President and CFO of J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc., says her career is a testament to the power of applied learning models. “I didn’t start college until two years after graduating from high school,” said Ward. “In between high school and college, I worked as a receptionist, bookkeeper, and a marketing associate. With that varied experience, I knew I wanted to dedicate my college career to earning my CPA, then a MBA. I truly believe participating in real-world work experience before and during college helps students define their interests and career goals.”

“We are excited to be a part of WSU Tech’s new Digital Marketing program,” continued Ward. “We see its value in today’s workforce and the workforce of tomorrow. After meeting Brianna Anderson and knowing Dr. Sheree Utash’s commitment to workforce training, we knew it was a program we wanted to be involved with and help succeed.”

Digital marketing courses cover a wide range of marketing topics, including digital strategy, web development, analytics, digital marketing buys, multimedia creation, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) techniques. Students earn either a Technical Certificate or Associate of Applied Science, giving them the option to enter the workforce or to continue their education at a four-year institution.

“Over the next several years, we will see applied learning models continue to grow,” said Dr. Sheree Utash, President of WSU Tech. “The team at J.P. Weigand & Sons recognizes the value that the digital marketing profession brings to the business community, and we are grateful for their support, which will allow us to take our Digital Marketing program to the next level.”
