The city of Wuhan celebrated the end of its lockdown with an impressive light show over the Yangtze River.
The lockdown lasted for 11 weeks, starting from 23 January. To lift the spirits of the public, a dazzling display of lights adorned skyscrapers and bridges at midnight last Wednesday.
The light show also featured depictions of healthcare workers who worked tirelessly to battle the pandemic.
China allowed 11 million citizens to travel on Wednesday after they had declared through an app they were in good health and had not been in contact with anyone infected by the virus.
Wuhan resident Tong Zhengtun told Independent that he had not “been outside for more than 70 days,” and described that being isolated had driven him “crazy.” Tong said his apartment complex had to be shut off after other residents were tested positive for COVID-19.
