Just when you thought technology , in which AI detects crimes before they happen, was dystopian enough, here’s more: South Korea is intending to go full force with robotic police and superhuman-esque suits.

According to the , citing Yonhap News Agency, a new ‘Police Future Vision 2050’ blueprint by the National Police Agency outlines 14 planned projects, including enlisting self-piloting robots and having human police in “Iron Man” exoskeleton suits within 30 years. Robot dogs, flying patrol vehicles, and autonomous cars would also be deployed by then.

The ‘Iron Man Police’ are described to be human cops donning high-tech armor that enhance their strength and power. Their suits would also be equipped with an AI advisory system not unlike Tony Stark’s built-in smart butler/voice assistant J.A.R.V.I.S. from the Marvel movies.

They’d be aided by quadruped robots, who will go on patrols and navigate harder-to-reach areas.

With the landscape rapidly evolving into a technology-led one, the law enforcement agency anticipates that artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced mobility will be the way to go to keep society safe. This also means that the force won’t have to be over-reliant on manpower, and human police would be able to instruct officers and robots while seated at a mobile police station.

In line with these expectations, it is hoping to open a ‘Meta National Police Agency’ unit—represented by ‘AI Metapolice’ avatars—to fight crime in the metaverse too.

All these changes mean the force would be restructured, and training is in the plans to help officers adapt to this vision.
